Quote: “The Academy sees itself as a forum of scholars that addresses issues of relevance to society in an interdisciplinary and transnational way. In 2018, it had around 2,000 members worldwide. These are renowned scientists, artists and clergy, including 33 Nobel Prize winners. Membership can be acquired at the invitation of the Academy or through suggestions of its members. On the basis of the recommendations of the Nomination Committee, the Senate decides on the admission of a new member. Membership is regarded as an award of merit to science and society.”
